The word I can’t stand hearing anymore is “profound.” People throw it around like confetti at a parade—“That quote is so profound,” “Her insight is profound,” “This moment feels profound.” But nine times out of ten, it’s just a polite way of saying, “I think I sound deep.” True profundity doesn’t need labeling; it lands in your chest and shakes something awake. Using the word “profound” to describe everything is like calling every sunset “beautiful”—it cheapens the extraordinary. I want words to hold weight again, not to be the wallpaper for shallow admiration.
